Patna: Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind, while inaugurating a workshop on the 'Management of Educational Institutes' sponsored by the Nalanda Open University (NOU) at A. N. Sinha Institute in Patna on Wednesday, express his disappointment with the low Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) of Bihar saying it lagged way behind other states causing an educational divide among the students.
"GER in Bihar is pathetic," the Govrnor said adding while the national ratio remained 23.6 percent, in Bihar it was at a dismal 13 percent.
Praising NOU for its efforts in bridging educational gap through its distant learning program, Kovind said that until the GER of Bihar was brought at par with other developed states, it would be very difficult for the students from the state to compete at the national or international level.
"NOU, using its technology, resources, and infrastructure, should promote enrollment and education in regions where residents currently do not have much educational opportunity. Besides offering traditional courses, it should also offer such courses that are job-oriented," the Governor said.
Senior journalist and the General Secretary of the Broadcast Editor Association N. K. Singh, NOU Vice Chancellor Dr. Rashbihari Prasad Singh, and Pro-Vice Chancellor R. P. Upadhyaya were among many others who also spoke on the occasion.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
