Patna: At least two people were dead and over 50 injured in the second phase of the staggered Panchayat elections in Bihar amidst reports of widespread violence from many polling booths.
People of Bihar went to the polling booths in Bhojpur, Khagaria, Kaimur, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, Patna, Saharsa, Siwan, Supaul, and West Champaran districts on Thursday to elect 27,514 Panchayat heads, or mukhias. At the end of the polling, officials estimated the voters' turnout to be around 60% with nearly 60 lakh people eligible to vote at 12,719 voting booths.
Officials said two people, including a sitting mukhia, were shot dead in Saharsa district while at least 50 injured in clashes across the state.
