Patna: Patna, along with Ranchi and Vishakhapattanam, on Friday became the newest railway stations in the country to have full free Google Wi-Fi broadband access for the convenience of millions of railway passengers passing through the state capital.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu at Railway Bhawan in New Delhi inaugurated the much-needed service through video conferencing.
Union Minister and BJP leader Ram Kripal Yadav, A K Mittal, General Manager, East-Central Railways, Hajipur, and other government officials were present at Patna Junction when the service was inaugurated on Friay.
Passengers will be able to get Wi-Fi Signal at all platforms, entry gates, foot over-bridge, waiting halls, retiring room, and food court.
So far the facility has been extended to 19 railway stations with the goal to add a total of 100 stations within a year. In the long run, altogether 400 railways stations across the breadth and width of India will be equipped with this facility," the Railway Minister said.
In order to connect to the Wi-Fi service at Patna Junction, passengers with smart phones would choose an SSID named 'RailWire'. This will allow them to open their browser with a login screen. Passengers will then type in their cell phone number after which they will receive a 4-digit code in the form of a text message. Once this code is entered into the login screen, one will be able to connect to high-speed broadband.
"The speed during the test was quite impressive. I am sure the service will be availed by all who are keen on being connected with the world all the time," Ram Kripal Yadav said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
