Patna: Politicians of all colors and stripes in Patna on Wednesday offered their condolences over the death of former Bihar, West Bengal, and Haryana Governor A R Kidwai who passed away at a hospital in New Delhi at the age of 96.
Kidwai leaves behind two sons and four daughters along with a number of grand children.
He will be buried at the Jamia Burial Grounds in Delhi on Thursday afternoon.
Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind, in his condolence message, expressed his grief over Kidwai's death and described him as an educationist who was very sensitive about raising the level of education in the country.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Janata Dal – U state President Vashisht Narayan Singh, Speaker Vijay Kumar Chowdhary, Legislative Council Chairperson Awadhesh Narayan Singh, Rashtriya Janata Dal President Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members, and former Chief Minister of Bihar Jagannath Mishra were among many who also sent their condolences to the family members of the departed soul.
Born in 1920, Kidwai served as the governor of Bihar, West Bengal, and Haryana. He was also a member of the Rajya Sabha between 2000 and 2004 and also served as the Chairperson of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) between 1974 and 1978.
Kidwai, who also served as the Chancellor of the Aligarh Muslim University, was bestowed with the Padma Vibhushan Award, the nation's second highest civilian award, in 2011.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
