Patna: Police in Patna on Tuesday seized fake medicines of many brand name companies with an estimated street value of Rs. 25 lakh following a series of raids on Govind Mitra Road, Bihari Sao Lane, and Bahadurpur Housing Colony.
Authorities also arrested three men for allegedly flooding many drug stores in the state capital with fake and spurious medicines, police said.
Police identified the three men as Sunil Kumar, Bablu, and Mantu.
Among the medicines seized are also some specialty drugs that are used in treating cancer, kidney diseases, and other serious ailments.
“These fake medicines are wrapped in fake wrappers and packages and are sold as the real thing in many drug stores in Patna,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said.
During their grilling, the three men told the police that they worked for one Ajit Agrawal, a resident of Nehru Nagar in Delhi, who supplied them the fake drugs for Bihar market.
Officials are also looking into the role of the drug inspector who may have chosen to look the other way for a share of the pie from the sale of fake drugs.
A team of police is to leave for Delhi to apprehend Agrawal, the SSP said.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
