Patna: After calling him the future leader of India and rolling out the red carpet for him during his visit to Patna in the month of December last year, the office of the Chief Minister informed the media on Wednesday that Nitish Kumar will not attend the Hardik Patel rally in Gujarat after all citing personal reasons for the sudden change in mind.

As reported here before, Kumar, on December 13, not only gave warm welcome to Hardik Patel, the leader of the Patel Navnirman Sena who has been spearheading the reservation movement for Patidars in Gujarat, but also accepted his invitation to speak at his scheduled rally in Gujarat on January 28.

The sudden change in plan appears to stem from the recent bonhomie between Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter's visit to Patna to attend Prakash Utsav in which Modi congratulated the Chief Minister for imposing prohibition in Bihar while Kumar expressed his support for Modi's demonetization efforts.

Nitish spokespersons, however, downplayed the sudden change in plan saying the Chief Minister was currently on his 'Nishchay Yatra' and was more focused on issues related with Bihar than the political developments of other states.
