Patna: The railway police on Monday arrested two men from the Howrah-Amritsar Mail and seized 55 kilogram of silver jewelries to the tune of several lakh rupees.
The breakthrough came during routine checking for alcohol on running trains when the railway security officials bumped into two large tote bags in the sleeper bogie of the train when it was approaching Mokama station.
When enquired, two men who were identified as Gajanan Giri of Kolkata and Praveen Seth of Howrah said the bags belonged to them. When opened, security officials were shocked to find hundreds of silver ornaments and jewelries in the bag.
Giri and Seth had reservation for Ambala Cantonment. When asked to show any consignment paper of the jewelries, the men failed to do so.
The two were brought to Patna Junction where they remain in police custody pending further investigation.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
