Patna: More than 200 government officials in Patna on Monday pledged to donate their eyes after their death, an initiative started by Patna District Magistrate Sanjay Agrawal who had pledged last December to donate his eyes in the event of his demise from the mortal world.
"This is a very noble cause as a person, after his death, could give the gift of sight to those who were either born blind or were the victims of some accident later in their lives," the DM said.
Agrawal said that not only government officials but their spouses also pledged in writing to donate their eyes after their death.
"We intend to intensify our efforts to spread awareness about the importance of eye, or cornea, donation. There are thousands of people of all ages in Bihar who would benefit greatly from this great gift of sight. Our next move is to attract senior citizens and let them know the importance of this noble cause," he said.
The DM said that those pledging to donate their eyes will be given a card specifying this person's intention and in the event of death, the family members have roughly eight hours to call the doctors who would come and take the eyes before the person is cremated or laid to rest.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
