Patna: After being told by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to step on anti-alcohol drive in the state, police in Patna carried out raids at a number of places in the district and seized over 1000 liters of country and foreign liquors in 1800 bottles leading to the arrests of 157 people involved in bootlegging and illegal sale of liquor.
Authorities also seized a Chevrolet, a Nano, a Bolero, a pick-up van, a motorcycle, and an auto-rickshaw during the daylong raid in Patna district.
The biggest breakthrough, however, came in Khagaul where police seized 441 liters of alcohol. This was followed by Bihta where authorities confiscated 220 liters of foreign liquors, ASP Rakesh Kumar Dubey said.
"The smugglers are using high-priced luxury cars to transport liquor because the police constables are afraid of stopping them during road-blocks believing someone influential could be driving or sitting in the car. Once the car reaches its destination, bottles are supplied by motorcycle riders to avoid suspicion," SSP said.
Fatuha DSP Anoj Kumar said that the police stopped a Chevrolet and and found four cartons of Royal Stag in it. The police seized the bottles and also arrested the driver of the Chevrolet who was identified as one Pawan Sah.
