Patna: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Shatrughan Sinha, at a function in Patna on Friday inaugurated vision centers in Patna, Ara, and Vaishali under the Seeing is Believing program launched by the Standard Chartered Bank.
Under the scheme, eight vision centers with the goal to eradicate blindness and improve eye sight is to be set up in Bihar and Maharashtra. People will be able to get their eyes tested at these centers and those who require surgery would be treated free of cost, Sinha, a former Bollywood actor, said.
The program is part of a campaign by the Canadian NGO Operation Eye Sight Universal and its partners in India including Sri Sai Lions Vision Center, Udaygiri Lions Eye Hospital, and Sri Ganpati Vision Center.
The program plans to provide eye test to over 4 lakh people in India in a period of next three years. There are nearly 12 lakh people in India who are clinically blind, officials said.
