Patna: Political grandstanding at its best, the candidates for the post of lecturers in various Bihar colleges in Patna on Monday staged a dharna outside the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) office polishing the shoes of the passers-by saying this is what it had come to for those who had been waiting for months, and in some cases years, to get appointment letters from the government.

Nearly two dozen candidates, to press for their demands, including appointment in colleges as lecturers, sat on the dharna throughout the day saying despite being educated and having completed all the requirements, they were still not given appointment letters by the Nitish government.

"Due to the government's apathy, now we have no choice but to make a living polishing shoes in trains and by the side of the road," said Chandan Kushwaha, a representative of the Bihar State Lecturer Candidates Association.

Kushwaha further said that the government was discriminating against certain departments and despite the appointment process beginning nearly three years ago, candidates were yet to be interviewed for the post of lecturers in Political Science, History, Hindi, and some other departments in colleges throughout Bihar.
