Patna: Following a high-speed chase and a police encounter leading to bullets flying from both sides, law enforcement officials in Patna on Tuesday nabbed a member of the chain-snatching gang that has been terrorizing the city, mostly women, for more than three months now.
After studying their crime pattern for the last several weeks, police on Tuesday morning waited for the criminals to pass through Boring Road near Krishna Apartments.
Soon three criminals in a blue TVS Apache motorcycle appeared on the scene. When the police tried to stop it, the motorcycle sped leading to a high-speed chase by the police. With the lane narrowing beside Krishna Apartments, the criminals could not control the vehicle and crashed. When police caught up with them, the criminals opened fire on the police forcing the cops to fire in retaliation.
While no one was said to be hurt in the firing, two criminals managed to escape while a third one was captured on the spot. He was identified as Barbigha resident Radheshyam.
Police recovered two pistols, bullets, the motorcycle, two gold chains, and a wedding 'mangalsutra' from the crime scene. The motorcycle was earlier reported stolen from Beur area, police said.
It may be recalled that this was the same gang that was involved in snatching a gold chain from the neck of Suprabha Singh, the wife of former Congress minister Mithilesh Kumar Singh, in Kankarbagh on May 12. http://www.patnadaily.com/index.php/news/12538-former-minister-s-wife-becomes-crime-victim-in-patna.html
The man in custody told the police that a man named Raju was the leader of the gang that had eight members, all skilled motorcyclists with past criminal records. Three of the gang-members were earlier arrested from Gardanibagh.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Manu Maharaj said efforts were on to nab the other two members of the gang.BLOG COMMENTS POWERED BY DISQUS
