Patna: Members of the Youth Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) in Patna on Thursday clashed with the police after they were stopped from storming the Raj Bhawan during a march against multi-crore rupees Srijan scam and the collapse of a dam in Bhagalpur district just hours before its inaugural by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

As the crowd carrying green RJD flags marched towards the Governor's mansion, police tried to stop it in Gardanibagh on account of the Raj Bhawan being a high-security, no entry zone. This led to an argument but soon escalated to a full-blown battle zone as RJD workers pelted stones and other objects on the law enforcement officials causing injury to many of them.

One constable was hit in the head by a projectile and was taken to a nearby hospital where he required several stitches to contain the bleeding.

Claim of police lathi charge by RJD activists were denied by senior law enforcement officials who said that the protestors had come prepared to clash with the police so as to later claim of police brutality to malign the Nitish administration.

Tejaswi Yadav, former Deputy Chief Minister and son of Lalu Prasad Yadav, charged the police of brutality saying the march was entirely peaceful until the police began beating up protestors with their batons.

RJD state President Ramchandra Purbey, Youth RJD leader Bulo Mandal, Tanveer Hasan, Mundrika Singh Yadav, Alok Kumar Mehta, Shakti Singh Yadav and a number of party leaders also took part in today's protest.

"Our youth leader from Buxar Pramod Kumar received serious injuries in the police lathi charge and he has been admitted into a hospital in Patna," Mandal said adding the group will burn the effigies of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister on Friday for today's lathi charge on them and for not allowing them to meet with Bihar Governor Satya Pal Malik.

An out of power RJD is demanding resignation of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi alleging their involvement in the Srijan Scam.

The scam is currently being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the nation's apex investigative agency.

"Srijan scam is even bigger than the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh but the Nitish government is systematically wiping off all incriminating evidences just as key witnesses are dying under mysterious conditions," Purbey said.
