Patna: Junior doctors of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) went on a strike on Thursday as they brought the medical care to a standstill following a brawl with the family members of a youth who died of dengue, according to the officials, before being brought to the hospital.

According to the officials, the 20-year old patient was already dead when he was brought to the hospital. However, more than two dozen family members blamed the doctors for the patient's death and started to beat up hospital staff and the doctors on duty.

This led to immediate shut down of services in the emergency ward and other wings of the hospital as the junior doctors issued an ultimatum saying if security in the hospital was not beefed up within 48 hours, they would be go on an indefinite strike crippling the entire medical services of the hospital.

The incident led to mass migration of patients from the hospital as family members were seen shifting their loved ones to other hospitals in the state capital.

Health Minister Mangal Pandey, agreeing with the junior doctors, directed the hospital officials to immediately tighten security level both inside and outside of the facility.
