Patna: Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi on Monday inaugurated the Middle Level Zoo Officers Training Program at Patna's Botanical and Zoological Garden where he reiterated the government's commitment to develop an 'Eco Tourism Center' at the Valmiki Nagar Tiger Reserve in West Champaran district.

Modi, who is also the Forest and Environment Minister of Bihar, a post earlier held by Tej Pratap Yadav, the son of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, said that the government had planned to develop a world-class aquarium at the Patna Zoo and was in the process of bringing colorful python and other exotic animals from Denmark in exchange for seven male Indian crocodiles.

Touting steadily growing number of visitors at the Patna Zoo, the Deputy Chief Minister advocated provision to buy zoo tickets online that, he said, would reduce the length of queue outside the ticket counter at the zoo entrance.

Like no other government or government-sponsored event in Bihar, today's program at the Patna Zoo was also not free from political diatribe as Modi wasted no time in lashing out at the Congress for picking Rahul Gandhi as its new President.

"Congress leaders in Patna are jumping in joy acting shocked as if Rahul Gandhi's election to the post was ever in question. Congress party lives to serve only one family and that is the Gandhi family. Only a couple of times it has chosen President who were not part of the Gandhi clan and they were Sitaram Kesari and P V Narsimha Rao. We all know how they were treated later on. Kesari was forcibly removed from the post and when Rao passed away, Sonia Gandhi did not even attend his funeral," he said.

Modi also took a shot at Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav saying he was up in arms over the new mining policy because it has effectively shut down the sand mafia that up until now had the protection of the RJD chief and his family members.

"This is the same mafia that was funding the Lalu family acquire expensive properties in Patna. One of the notorious members of this mafia Subhash Yadav bought eight of Rabri Devi's properties in one single day. The Income Tax will be looking into this as well," he said.
