Patna: Students in Patna on Tuesday held a peaceful candle-light vigil to protest against the killing of Veermani Kumar, an engineer, who was gunned down on Hajipur-Chhapra Highway on Monday evening whilre returning to Patna.
Demanding immediate arrest of the killer or killers of Kumar, the students also asked for death penalty to those responsible for his tragic death.
As reported, Kumar, a resident of Kurji area in Patna, was working as the junior engineer in the Gandak Project Irrigation Department. His office was in Hajipur from where he was returning to Patna when someone shot him from the front of the car. The bullet, penetrating the windshield glass, pierced into his killing him instantly.
His body was taken to the nearest referral hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.
Officials said that it appeared the murder of the engineer was the handiwork of a professional killer.
