Buxar: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's so-called 'Vikas Sameeksha Yatra' ran into a literal roadblock in Buxar on Friday when dozens of villagers pelted bricks, stones, and other objects on his motorcade injuring at least seven policemen though the Chief Minister himself remained unharmed.

The incident occurred when Kumar's motorcade was passing through Dumraon.

Dozens of angry protestors, including many women, began throwing stones at the caravan causing much damage to the Chief Minister's security detail. SDO Pramod Kumar, Dumraon police station in-charge Subodh Kumar, a personal security guard of the Chief Minister and three policemen were hurt in the attack with blood visibly running down their head or face.

After a mild lathi charge, the situation was shortly brought under control though no one was said to have been arrested.

The Chief Minister, after much confusion whether to go by road or by air, decided to take the road route leaving Patna at 10:00 am. Around 12:30, he reached Buxar where he unveiled a statue of Kunwar Singh at the Dumraon Agriculture College.

Officials said that Kumar then left for Nandan village, about six kilometers from Dumraon, where he was to review ongoing developmental projects and launch a host of new schemes in the region. However, when he failed to visit a 'dalit basti' in the same village, residents of that area became angry and launched an assault on the Chief Minister's motorcade, said a police officer.

Though clearly disturbed by the turn of events, Kumar maintained his cool and asked officials to ignore the incident.

"Some people are unhappy that I am committed to the progress of Bihar. They try to mislead the people and provoke such incidents but we are not going to be deterred by such minor incidents and will continue to march ahead on the path of development and progress," the Chief Minister said.
