WDC Managing Director N. Vijayalakshmi, on the occasion, said that women could not be fully empowered until they were able to achieve complete financial freedom.

The WDC that helps small self-help groups in eight districts in Bihar with valuable financial advices, also acts as a bridge between them and commercial banks by helping them open bank accounts.

Vijayalakshmi said that out of 4,828 such groups active in eight districts, the WDC had helped over 2,500 groups open bank accounts and the rest were to become part of the MBGB within the next few months.

MBGB chairperson P. N. Singh said that the understanding between the bank and the WDC was a major move in the right direction towards providing total self-reliance to women in the rural areas where they continued to remain oblivious to economic facilities available to them.
