An Emotional Ganga Trip for Naveenchandra Ramgoolaam
Patna: February 19, 2008
Following his return from Harigaon in Siwan district, Mauritius Prime Minister Naveenchandra Ramgoolaam, accompanied by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Tuesday night took a boat ride in the Ganges and soaked himself in the home environment that was left by his forefathers when they left for Mauritius as indentured laborers over a century and a half ago.
With his palms firmly attached with each other in respect of the 'Ganga Maiyya', the Prime Minister listened with admiration to the Bhojpuri religious songs sung by a group of people somewhere on the bank of the river.
The Prime Minister, with his eyes closed, offered prayers to 'Mother Ganga' wishing for a long and cordial relationship with Bihar and its people while saying the trip had left him with even more admiration and adulation for his native land and wished to return to Bihar again and again.
Veena Ramgoolaam, the Prime Minister's wife, other members of the Mauritius delegate and a number of Bihar Cabinet, including Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, were also present during the boat ride that left the Bankipore Club ghat a little after the sun set over the Ganges horizon.
After enjoying a grand feast on the ship, the guests returned to the Bankipore Club ghat at around 10:00 pm.
