Mauritius Prime Minister Naveenchandra Ramgoolaam, during his first ever visit to his ancestral village of Harigaon in Siwan district on Tuesday, could not hold back his emotions when he said in Bhojpuri that he was overwhelmed by setting his foot in the land of his forefathers.
"My relationship with Bihar and Bhojpur is of blood and goes back several generations. Today I feel blessed to have touched the land of my ancestors who tolled and toiled to give us and every Mauritian of Bihari origin a better future," Mr. Ramgoolaam, who was accompanied by his wife Veena Ramgoolaam and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, said during a public function.
"Moving forward with self-confidence while realizing the power of fate is what we need today to succeed in life. Just like Mauritius, I am confident Bihar would also prosper in the able hands of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar," he said.
The Prime Minister also announced a donation of Rs. 1 crore for setting up hospitals and schools in Harigaon.
Later the Prime Minister visited a Hanuman Temple in Shukla Toli in Siwan thanking the lord for allowing him to visit the pious land of his ancestors.
Nitish Kumar, in his speech called Ramgoolaam's visit to Harigaon 'a historical moment' and a step forward in the direction of a renewed relationship between Bihar and Mauritius.
Bihar Health Minister Chandramohan Rai, Human Resources Minister Brishan Patel, Food and Supply Minister Suchitra Sinha, Panchayat Minister Narendra Narayan Yadav, Art and Culture Minister Janardan Singh Sigriwal, and Siwan legislator Bhagwan Singh Kushwaha were also present on the occasion.
