Two Dead in Separate Road Accidents

Truck torched after accident. Photo by Shashi UttamAn angry mob in Badlaopur village near Parsa Bazaar in Patna district on Tuesday set a truck on fire after it hit 38-year Rampravesh Manjhi killing him on the spot.

The incident occurred on Chhatna-Pipra Road at around 8:30 am.

As reported, Manjhi was going somewhere on his bicycle when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction hit him killing him instantly.

While the driver managed to escape the mob's fury, the locals, before the police could arrive, seized the truck and set it on fire destroying it completely. After the fire subsided, the locals then stole the truck engine and parts.

Truck torched after accident. Photo by Shashi UttamSenior law-enforcement officials tried to negotiate with the protestors who blocked the road for hours. Only after a compensation of Rs. 10,000 for Manjhi's funeral, the mob released the body to the police for an autopsy.

In another incident, a Rickshaw driver was crushed by a truck on Patna-Khagaul Road. 50-year old Satish Sao was taken to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead on arrival.

The driver, however, managed to escape with the truck.

Authorities are trying to identify the truck and its owner.
