Patna: February 20, 2008
At a workshop on 'Transforming Knowledge into Development Effectiveness' sponsored by the United Nations at A. N. Sinha Institute in Patna on Wednesday, India representative Dr. Maxine Olsen said that she was pleased by the development works in Bihar and was encouraged by the government's measures to ease poverty in the state.
Olsen also talked about increasing employment opportunities in the state, availability of primary education for all, and the welfare of mother and child, particularly in the rural areas where even basic health care is still out of reach for most people.
The three-day workshop has been jointly sponsored by Solution Exchange and Nidan, an NGO, and is attended by more than a hundred representatives from various parts of the nation.
On Thursday, the delegates will split into two groups with one group studying potato and rice growth in Gaya district while the other group studying developments in the urban areas.
