Paswan Appeals for Rising above Caste Barrier
Patna: February 22, 2008
Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president Ram Vilas Paswan, while attending a function organized at Patna Planetarium to celebrate the birth anniversary of Sant Ravidas on Friday, appealed to the dalits unite and shun the politics based on castes while opposing the 'Brahmanwad' but not the Brahmans.
"We do not have any enmity with the Brahmans as they, like many others, have sacrificed their lives in the process of nation building. Our battle is with 'Brahmanwad' and we all must join in this fight to defeat the practice of discrimination based on one's lineage," Paswan said.
The LJP leader also took the opportunity to announce his party's upcoming 'Dalit Ekta Rally' at Patna's Gandhi Maidan on April 14 while also proposing his latest idea for reservation for those who married outside their caste.
Expressing his reaction over the Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray who earlier dared the Railway Minister and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav to organize Chhath festival at Chennai's Marina Beach, Paswan said that Thackeray's nephew and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief was doing enough damage on his own and did not need Bal Thackeray's assistance to further complicate the situation.
