First Software Park Opens in Bihar
Patna: February 22, 2008
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna on Friday inaugurated the nation's 49th Software Technology Park (STP) near Pataliputra Polytechnic Complex saying the facility would be a major shot in the arm for the state where there was no dearth of talents and yet the youths of the state had to go outside the state to get experience in the field of information technology.
Union Minister of State for IT and Communications Dr. Shakeel Ahmed said the software park was a major step toward the development of the state and he was with the Chief Minister all the way when it came to the progress of Bihar.
"India exported more than $36,000 crore worth of software in 2007 of which Bihar's contribution was none. However, now things are about to change with the set up of this Software Technology Park in Patna," Ahmed said
Emphasizing the role of IT in today's world, the Chief Minister said that outsourcing had become the accepted form of conducting business by large companies worldwide. "The calls to train enquiry in England are rerouted to a call center in Gurgaon. So far Bihar had lagged behind in the IT sector but with the opening of this software park, we hope to attract major call centers in Patna," Kumar said.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Ram Kripal Yadav, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Nitin Navin, Bihar Telecommunication secretary Navin Kumar, STP India director Onkar Rai and other senior bureaucrats were present on the occasion.
