Sudhir Kumar Singh, the nephew of Janata Dal (U) MP Prabhunath Singh, along with some of his minions in Patna on Saturday assaulted a traffic constable Radha Kinakar Thakur after the cop asked him to move his Scorpio vehicle that was parked in an illegal manner.

The incident took place in front of NP Center on Dak Bungalow crossing.

As reported, Thakur was assaulted by Singh and his buddies when he was asked by the traffic police to remove his car that he had parked in a no-parking zone. This led to an altercation which soon turned violent as Singh and his men attacked Thakur and allegedly tried to snatch his service revolver as well. They also tried to force Tiwari into their vehicle and escape, eyewitnesses in the area said.

Thakur was finally rescued by a Kotwali Police team that arrested Singh and his men while also seizing his vehicle.

A criminal case against Singh and his men was lodged with the Kotwali police station as Singh also filed counter charges against Thakur saying he assaulted him first and hurled verbal abuse at him and his friends.

Meanwhile, Kotwali police station in-charge Abhay Narayan Singh denied having arrested anyone in the case.

"The men have been detained by the police for interrogation. Any action would be taken only after gathering all the facts in the case," Singh said.
