Murder Suspect Dragged out of Hospital; Beaten up

Patna: February 23, 2008

An angry mob in Hajipur on Saturday dragged a 19-year old man from a local hospital and beat him up brutally for an earlier stabbing incident in which he stabbed his own friend to death after accusing him of stealing his mobile phone.

As reported, Ravi Kumar was being treated of stab wounds at the hospital under police custody when an angry mob, made up of mostly youths, barged into the building and dragged Ravi who was unable to defend himself because of handcuffs still in his hands and beat him up so viciously that had it not been for some law enforcement officials, he would have been dead on the spot.

Earlier Ravi was arrested after he stabbed his 18-year old friend Om Prakash, the police said.

Ravi was rushed to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) where he remains in very critical conditions.

Om Prakash who was also rushed to the PMCH prior to Ravi's arrest, died of his injuries, the police said.

Both Ravi and Om Prakash attended local colleges and lived in the same lodge, the police said.

The Assistant Sub-inspector who was at duty at the hospital was suspended after the incident.

Muzaffarpur DIG and Hajipur SP are investigating the case and raids are on to identify those who attacked Ravi after dragging him from the hospital.
