Childless Couple Find Abandoned Baby in Patna. Photo by Shashi UttamA couple who did not have any child of their own despite being married for over 16 years were blessed with a baby girl when they found a day-old girl abandoned by her mother in a ditch covered with water chestnut plants in Gardanibagh area in Patna.

As reported, Basanti Devi, the wife of one Rajesh Kumar, was passing by the ditch on Road Number 16 in Gardanibagh when she heard the cry of a baby. Upon a quick search, she found a baby girl wrapped in a plastic bag with no parents in sight.

The couple picked up the baby and approached the Gardanibagh police station where, after the completion of some formalities, they were given the legal custody of the child.

"This is a true miracle by the God. Both my husband and I had always longed for a child of our own and despite prayers and 'mannats' we were denied the joy of a baby. Today it seems the God has finally heard our prayers and sent us this baby. We don't know who the real mother of the child is but we will raise her as our own," said a proud new mother.
