Students take PU officials Hostage for Two Hours
Patna: July 8, 2008
Irate Patna University students on Tuesday staged a protest outside the house of Vice Chancellor Shyam Lal and also detained the Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. S. I. Ehsan, the Dean, and the Proctor for more than two hours demanding restoration of academic environment in the university and an end to the ongoing strike by the PU non-teaching staff.
Accusing the university administration of sleeping at the wheel while thousands of students' futures hang in a state of uncertainty, the protestors demanded actions from the Vice Chancellor saying Dr. Lal was not least bit worried about the education and was wasting his time in activities that did not pertain the students or their future.
Riding on buffaloes to make their point, the students said their future was on the brink of being ruined and just as their parents had admonished them of being ending up as a buffalo herder if they did not go to school, Patna University, with its extremely anti-students attitude, was bent on destroying their prospects of having a good job and a comfortable life.
"If the PU employees' strike is not brought to a quick end, we would be forced intensify our stir," said Janata Dal (U) students' wing leader Mukesh Kumar.
