Patna High Court Chief Justice R. M. Lodha on Thursday sworn-in Bihar's new Governor R. L. Bhatia in the presence of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, State Assembly Speaker Uday Narayan Chowdhary, State Legislative Council chairperson Prof. Arun Kumar, the leader of the Opposition Rabri Devi and other Cabinet members.
In a rather unconventional move seen by many as a rare gesture of conviviality, the Governor asked the Chief Minister to sit by his side during the oath ceremony that began at 7:30 pm at the Governor's mansion.
Earlier, Bhatia arrived at Patna Airport where he was given a guard of honor.
The Chief Minister, a number of his Cabinet members, and top administrators greeted the Governor by handing over flower bouquet to him.
Bhatia takes over after Governor R. S. Gavai who was shifted to Kerala.
