Counterfeit CD Operation Busted; Three Arrested
Patna: July 12, 2008
The Kotwali police in Patna on Saturday claimed to have busted an operation engaged in CD/DVD piracy following a raid at a house in Goria Toli while seizing equipment related with the software piracy.
Based on anonymous tips, the police raided the house of one Chandra Prakash Narayan and recovered 7 multi-recording computers, blank CDs, counterfeit labels of popular movies and albums, and thousands of CD/DVDs of X-rated nature, Kotwali police station in-charge Mundrika Prasad said.
The police also arrested the alleged kingpin of the operation Kameshwar Sao and two others who own electronic shops in Bakerganj's electronic market.
Such raids are not very uncommon in Patna that has a thriving market of pirated video and software. Despite several dozen such raids in the past couple of years alone, the counterfeiters continue to slip through the administrative cracks making it a never-ending cat and mouse game between the crooks and the law-enforcement officials.
