NCP to Align with Non-NDA Parties
Patna: July 14, 2008
At a party's office-bearers' meeting in Patna on Monday, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) national general secretary and MP Tariq Anwar said his party would join hands with secular parties in the nation and would ensure the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) retains power at the Center in the next Lok Sabha elections.
"Besides the Samajwadi Party, there are a host of small parties that are part of the UPA coalition. We are going to come together to ensure a massive victory for the UPA while delivering a lethal political blow to the communal parties like the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and its allies," Anwar said.
Presiding over the event, NCP state president Upendra Kushwaha said the party would form a booth committee by August 15 and would hold a three-day camp later the same month to gear up for the Parliamentary elections.
The NCP would also launch a statewide agitation against the Nitish government to highlight its "failure in rectifying irregularities in the BPL list, bungling in the distribution of ration and kerosene coupons, dwindling law and order situation in the state and widespread corruption within the government."
