High Court Favors Actions against PU VC

Patna: July 17, 2008

Patna High Court Justice V. N. Sinha, on Thursday, following the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) earlier initiated by one Chanda Rai, directed the Joint Secretary of the state Human Resources Department Anjani Kumar Singh to appear before the court on Friday in connection with the ongoing strike by the Patna University employees.

"If the administration is unable to bring this strike to an end, there is no reason why legal proceedings cannot be initiated against the Vice Chancellor and Pro-Vice Chancellor of Patna University," Justice Sinha said adding he was at loss as to why the government was not making any attempt to bring the strike to an end.

The court ordered the state government to take necessary steps to effectively end the strike and restore academic atmosphere in the wider interests of the students.
