Delhi Court Allows Pappu Yadav to Participate in Trust Vote

Patna: July 17, 2008

A day after the Patna High Court granted permission to convicted politicians, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) MP Surajbhan Singh and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Mohammed Shahabuddin, to participate in the trust vote against the UPA government, the Delhi High Court, on Thursday allowed RJD MP Pappu Yadav who is serving life term at Delhi's Tihar Jail to take part in the same vote of confidence.

Justice G.S. Sistani, after hearing arguments from the defense counsel, allowed Yadav to participate in the vote motion scheduled for July 22.

The RJD MP is behind the bar since February 2005 after a court in Bihar convicted him in the 1998 murder of CPI-ML legislator Ajit Sarkar.

Earlier on Wednesday, a Patna High Court division bench granted bail to Surajbhan Singh, MP from Ballia, in the Rami Singh murder case just three weeks after he was awarded life imprisonment by a Begusarai court while also allowing RJD MP from Siwan Mohammed Shahabuddin to take part in the confidence vote.
