Car Damaged after Failed Extortion Attempt

Anti-social elements in Raja Bazaar area in Patna on Tuesday pelted stones at the house of one Neetu Singh and damaged her car when she refused to pay up 'rangdari tax', or extortion, to them raising their ire.

In a report filed with the Airport police station, Singh said that the goons of notorious criminal Vinay Singh arrived at her house and demanded money to the tune of Rs. 2.5 lakh. When she refused to open the door, the criminals then threw stones at her house and damaged her Maruti Alto car that would cost her several thousand rupees to get fixed.

The victim who lives within the Sriram Complex with other family members said she was terrified by the incident and feared for her and relatives' lives.

The police, however, disputed the extortion claims saying the attack on her house and car was the result of an old enmity.

So far no arrest has been made in the case.
