Yet another Assault by PMCH Junior Doctors

Patna: June 3, 2008

Yet another Assault by PMCH Junior Doctors. Photo by Anupam SinghTwo days after assaulting the family members of 9-year old Nilima who died at the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) allegedly due to doctors' negligence, the junior doctors of the tainted hospital, that once boasted as the best medical college east of the Atlantic, on Tuesday attacked a woman simply because her kid sister was crying in the hospital.

The reprehensible incident occurred in the Tata Ward when some junior doctors shoved a five-year old sister of a woman from Sasaram who was brought to the hospital nearly a week ago for medical care. Sitting on the hospital bed, the girl who had been upset for being in the hospital for a week had been crying asking her family members to take her home.

When her elder sister protested, the junior doctors then slapped her.

As if that was not enough for these so-called agents of God, they then went on to beat her brother as well.

Interestingly, senior doctor Vibhu Priyadarshi who was also there when the junior doctors were busy assaulting the patients, instead of trying to separate them, allegedly participated in the shameful event shedding all sign of dignity.

The incident spurred a protest in the hospital as dozens of visitors taking side of the victims demanded arrests of the offending doctors. A criminal case against Dr. Priyadarshi was filed by the victims at the Pirbahore police station.

As reported before, last Sunday the junior doctors beat up the family members of Patna lawyer S. K. Mallick after he demanded a medical report following the sudden death of his nine-year old daughter Nilima in the hands of the PMCH doctors.

To avoid prosecution, the junior doctors went on an immediate strike – a weapon used by them too often to get out of a jam.

The strike was later withdrawn at the behest of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
