PMCH Junior Doctors Back on Strike

Patna: June 4, 2008

Not perturbed by the tragic death of nine-year old Nilima in the least bit, junior doctors at the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) on Wednesday evening went on an indefinite strike demanding the arrest of Nilima's father and Patna High Court advocate S. K. Mallick saying it was he who assaulted the doctors and not the other way round as reported in the media.

Showing no sign of concerns for the hospital patients, the junior doctors said they were routinely the victims of angry family members making it nearly impossible for them to discharge their duties in a diligent manner.

The doctors also demanded the sacking of DSP Sanjay Singh who, they said, instead of arresting Mallick, barged into the hospital to arrest the doctors.

Meanwhile, many patients at the PMCH started to leave the hospital to get medical care elsewhere. Those who could not manage to do so where at the mercy of a handful of senior doctors who were seen rushing from one department to another.
