Dozens of political groups and press reporters' unions in Patna on Friday took out rallies and burnt effigies to protest against the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) junior doctors and the Nitish administration, depending on their political agendas, bringing the entire city to a crawl.
Journalists with affiliation to Bihar Shramjeevi Patrakar Union staged a dharna at the Income Tax roundabout demanding immediate arrests of all criminals-turned-doctors who participated in yesterday's assault on reporters, annulment of their medical licenses, medical expenses for the injured media-men, security, and a monetary compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to all three of the reporters who were battling for their lives in various hospitals.
The union president Kamlesh Kumar Sinha, while talking to reporters, said the junior doctors should be arrested, tried at the speedy trial court, and thrown into jail to avoid repeat of yesterday's incident.
Among those who blamed the state administration and burnt the effigies of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar included Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Samajwadi Party (SP) who also demanded the resignation of Kumar and state Health Minister Nand Kishore Yadav for failing to prevent such incidents from taking place.
Communist Party of India, Samata Sainik Dal, Krantikari Communist Vikas Manch, and Rashtriya Mahila Brigade also held rallies condemning the doctors' behavior while calling for their arrests.
