Warrants against 11 Junior Doctors; All Absconding
Patna: June 6, 2008
A Patna Court on Friday issued non-bailable arrest warrants against 11 junior doctors who took active part in yesterday's assault on media-men that sent three reporters to the hospitals while leaving many injured.
The warrants were issued in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Raghavendra Kumar Singh shortly after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held a high-level meeting with the Health Minister and state's top cops directing them to arrest the offending junior doctors within 24 hours.
Those who are facing imminent arrest are Dr. Anand, Dr. Sanjit, Dr. Vinod, Dr. Arun, Dr. Arya, and Dr. Anil for their alleged involvement in Thursday incident.
Warrants were also issued against Dr. Abhay Ranjan, Dr. Azahar, Dr. Amatullah, Dr. N. K. Singh, and Dr. Sanjay Kumar for the negligent death of Shiv Kumar Mishra, a Buxar resident, and then assaulting his grieving family members.
All the doctors under the police radar are said to have gone underground as police continues to search for them at their known hangouts, SSP Amit Kumar said.
"Shortly after the incident, these junior doctors picked up their belongings from their rooms and left the campus to avoid arrests," Kumar said adding it was only a matter of time before they were captured and thrown in jail.
Meanwhile, the entire Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) resembled an army regiment on Friday as dozens of arms-toting security jawans guarded the facility to avoid a repeat of yesterday's incident notwithstanding the fact that most patients had already started their move to other health care facilities in light of the ongoing strike at the hospital.
