Rowdy PMCH Junior Doctors now Target NMCH
Patna: June 7, 2008
Unruly junior doctors from Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) refused to back out from their disruptive behavior when nearly a dozen of them on Saturday tried to disrupt normal functioning at the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) after being chased away from the PMCH campus.
After putting a padlock on the Emergency gate, the criminally-minded students then tried to disrupt proceedings at the registration counter.
A vigil staff and visitors at the hospital, however, thwarted their attempt to create disorder by overpowering and chasing them away out of the hospital.
NMCH students, in a display of support to their PMCH counterparts, briefly went on a strike but returned to work after the Health Secretary threatened to take harsh measures against them.
There were reports of at least two patients dying due to medical negligence at the NMCH but that could not be independently verified by the PatnaDaily.
Meanwhile, the police are yet to trace the 11 junior doctors of PMCH against whom non-bailable warrants were issued on Friday by a Patna court.
Officials have obtained the names, addresses, and other details of the absconding doctors and are conducting raids to apprehend them, Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Kumar said.
"We are prepared to attach their properties if they do not surrender soon on their own," he said.
