Will he Stay or Would he Go?
Patna: June 7, 2008
With most Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators now camping in New Delhi, the political fate of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi is now less than 24 hours away when the party high command meets on Sunday to determine whether he remains as the deputy of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar or he is shown the door as some of his distracters have been gunning for since last Cabinet reshuffle.
Modi had been the target of several BJP leaders since April 13 when the Chief Minister announced a massive reshuffle in the Cabinet removing some from his administration while switching others from one department to another.
The opponents and supporters of Modi will express their feelings at the party headquarters in New Delhi on Sunday in front of senior leaders Venkaiyah Naidu and Sushma Swaraj who have promised to give both sides a sympathetic ear before deciding whether Modi should stay or go.
A vote of confidence with secret ballot to determine the fate of Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister has not been ruled out.
PatnaDaily, however, has learnt that Modi will possibly survive the vote of confidence as leaders in New Delhi are expected to placate the dissidents citing good feedback on his works since wrestling power from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) nearly two and a half years ago and his ability to work cordially with Nitish Kumar, a Janata Dal (U) leader.
