Six Junior Doctors Suspended

Patna: June 8, 2008

The state government, in the wake of the ongoing strike by Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) junior doctors and their display of shameful behavior unbecoming of any student much less a medical student, fired the PMCH principal R. K. P. Singh for failing to perform his duties diligently including failing to restore order at the hospital.

Singh was replaced by Nalanda Medical College Principal Dr. C. B. Chowdhary, PMCH superintendent Dr. O. P. Chowdhary said on Sunday.

The government also suspended six junior doctors and an X-ray technician for assaulting press photographers last Thursday that left three of them in seriously hurt conditions.

The junior doctors placed under suspension are Dr. Anil Kumar of Kushinagar, UP, Dr. Sankhdeo Acharya of West Bengal, Dr. Arun Kumar Das of Bhagalpur, Dr. Binod Kumar Paswan of Purnia, Dr. Sanjit Kumar Agarwal of Jharkhand, and Dr. Kumar Anand of Araria. An X-ray technician who was suspended was identified as Sudhir Sharma of Sonepur.
