Foundation Day for Bridge Construction Corporation Observed. Photo by Anupam SinghChief Minister Nitish Kumar, at the first foundation day celebration of the Bihar Bridge Construction Corporation in Patna on Thursday, lauded the role of the department saying the works done by it in the last two years had become a 'true success story' that is being emulated by the government in other states.

"For the first time in 33 years since the Corporation was formed, the government is observing its foundation day to recognize the great works done by it. And why not when people who don't even remember their own birthdates celebrate their birthdays with much pomp and show?" the Chief Minister quipped taking an indirect shot at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav who just a couple of days ago celebrated his 61st birthday in the presence of his party leaders and supporters.

Kumar also criticized the opposition for 'trying to find faults' in the ongoing road construction schemes in Bihar saying these people were looking for any excuse, however minor, to blast the administration for cheap political gains.

"They are waiting for any rickshaw to tip over in a hole so they can make it a federal case against the Bihar government. We, however, are not worried about such criticism and will continue to work for the development of state despite all odds," Kumar said.

The Chief Minister honored several Bridge Construction officials and engineers at the function while lashing out at the Central agencies who were involved in road construction work in Bihar.

"Even a local 'raj mistry' could do a better work than those who were involved in rebuilding drainage system in Kankarbagh," Kumar said.

Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi also praised the Bridge Construction Corporation in Bihar saying the new bridges symbolized overall development in the state and other government departments should be inspired by their hard work and focus on the projects.

Others who were present on the occasion included the Bridge Construction Corporation chairperson Pratyay Amrit, Managing Director A. K. Jha, several officials from Navyug Constructions and Vashisht Constructions of Chandigarh and Bihar companies, and Bridge Construction Minister Prem Kumar.
