The first rain of the monsoon on Thursday brought the same misery to Patna that the people are so familiar with despite the government's claims of improvement in the drainage system as many areas filled with knee to ankle-deep water forcing many to abandon their stalled vehicles and walk in the rain water to look for help.

Outside Patna Junction, people had to wade in ankle-deep water to reach the station that in itself was a testimony of poor renovation work recently carried out by the government. The roofs above all the platforms were leaking to the point that the travelers had to stand on the stairs to avoid getting drenched.

Elsewhere, the situation was no better either. Rajendra Nagar, Kankarbagh, Bakerganj, Dariapur, Langartoli, Machhuatoli, Kadam Kuan, Mithapur, Gardanibagh, Boring Canal Road and many other low-lying areas were reeling under the effect of the first shower of the season once again exposing the hollowness of the government's claims.

Water also entered into many houses and shops forcing people to rely on buckets and small motor pumps to stop it from spreading to other parts of the buildings.
