Rudy Nominated for Rajya Sabha Seat

Patna: June 13, 2008

Former Civil Aviation Minister and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy, on Friday, was named the Rajya Sabha candidate from Bihar, party general secretary Ananth Kumar said.

Rudy, who represents the Chhapra constituency and lost to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad in the last Parliamentary elections, would be arriving in Patna on Saturday to file his nomination papers.

The election for this Rajya Sabha seat was necessitated because of the cancellation of Parliamentary membership of BJP leader Captain Jainarayan Nishad.

Senior party leaders had earlier asked the election commission to cancel the Rajya Sabha membership of Nishad following his anti-party activities and his ideological alignment with the RJD.
