Cooking Gas Cylinders to be Rs. 10 Cheaper

Photo PatnaDaily.ComAfter lowering the taxes on petroleum products to provide some economic relief to the people of Bihar, the state government is now poised to drop the prices of cooking gas cylinders by Rs. 10 that would net a total loss of Rs. 25 crore annually to the state exchequer.

The 4% VAT on cooking gas cylinders would be dropped to 1% thus bringing the price down by Rs. 10, Commercial Tax department officials said on Saturday.

The government had the option to either drop the VAT to 1% or completely get rid of the VAT on cooking gas cylinders on the pattern of other states like Haryana, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh.

After much consideration, the government chose the former, officials said adding it would ultimately cause of loss of Rs. 25 crore that would have to be compensated through some other schemes.
