When it rains, it pours! And it poured all right in Patna on Saturday!

Registering 66 mm of downpour in the state capital in last 10 hours, the entire city turned into a massive water reservoir bringing the wretchedness that it always brings, only worse, thanks to hundreds of thousands of potholes left by the road construction workers throughout Patna.

With water-logging nearly everywhere, Patna's obsolete underground drainage system, instead of pulling rainwater inward, spouted garbage on the streets making it nearly impossible to walk for the pedestrians.

While three passengers on an auto-rickshaw were hurt when the tempo hit a deep hole filled with rainwater on Buddha Marg, residents in Saidpur area, fed up with water-logging caused by the overflowing Saidpur nullah, blocked the road near the Rajendra Nagar stadium by burning tires and demanding immediate cleaning of the open drainage the stench of which is making it nearly impossible to live nearby.

Interestingly, Patna Mayor Sanjay Kumar and Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh, after the perfunctory assessment of Patna streets, declared there was no water-logging in any area and the underground drainage was working 'just as expected'.
