Vigilance to Probe Illegal Appointments
Patna: June 15, 2008
Bihar Legislative Council acting chairperson Prof. Arun Kumar on Saturday said he had asked the State Vigilance Bureau to investigate the more than 70 appointments made allegedly in violation of the existing protocols by his predecessor and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Prof. Jabir Hussain.
"The Vigilance will be able to get to the bottom of the case without any prejudice or bias against Mr. Hussain against whom an FIR was earlier filed with the Sachivalaya Police Station," Kumar said.
Pending usual formalities including a nod from the state Advocate General, the Vigilance would initiate its enquiry against Hussain.
The former chairperson of the Council is accused of hiring over 70 Class III and Class IV employees, and a few higher-level staff, during his tenure in the state Legislature. Most new employees were said to be his relatives and close friends as charged by one Raj Kumar Singh who filed the case against Hussain.
Incidentally, all the new appointees were later dismissed after the case reached Patna High Court.
