BJP Leader Threatens Self-immolation
Patna: June 16, 2008
On Saturday he files an FIR against the Janata Dal (U) leader and Minister for Food and Civil Supplies Narendra Singh. On Sunday he turns in his resignation from the state legislature. And on Monday, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Phalguni Yadav threatens to commit suicide if Singh was not removed from the NDA ministry in Bihar.
Yadav who has claimed that Singh and his goons, during a public appearance in Jamui on May 28, pushed him off the platform causing a fracture in his leg and pain in his chest, on Monday said that since the senior party leaders from both JD-U and BJP have chosen to brush off the 'murderous attack' on him, he was left with no choice but to commit suicide by self-immolation.
"What is the point in being alive when you don't have respect of your peers? This is my life and I am free to end it wherever and whenever I wish to do so," Yadav, who is known for his grandstanding, said adding he would soon announce the date and place of his immolation.
Earlier, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar avoided making any comment on the incident saying the party leaders were scheduled to meet on June 18 during which an amicable resolution would be sought to bring both warring parties together.
