Phalguni Issue would be Settled Soon: CM
Patna: June 16, 2008
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, at the end of his weekly Janata Durbar in Patna on Monday, played down the ongoing rift between the Janata Dal (U) leader and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Narendra Singh and Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Phalguni Yadav saying the matter was internal to the coalition government and would be settled amicably in an upcoming meeting later this week.
"The relationship between the JD-U and the BJP goes back several years and cannot be strained by incidents such as the one that occurred in Jamui," the Chief Minister said adding it would not be appropriate for him to make any comment on the issue in view of the meeting between the leaders of the two parties.
Kumar also ridiculed the ongoing 'brainstorming session' of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders in Ramgarh calling the summit instead a 'panic session'.
"The RJD has lost direction after its defeat in the last Assembly elections and is now desperate to device ways that could put some life back into it but unfortunately for them, the people of Bihar now know better," the Chief Minister said.
Kumar also blasted the Central government for not keeping its promise to compensate the state for the last year's devastating flood.
"When it comes to paying off other states, the UPA government has plenty of money to disburse but when Bihar is struggling to recover from a big flood like we had last year, the leaders at the Center prefer to look the other way," he said.
