Paswan Blows Bugle of Lok Sabha Elections
Patna: June 18, 2008
Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) president and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, during the coronation of his brother Pashupati Kumar Paras as the party's state president, at a function organized at Patna's Sri Krishna Memorial Hall on Wednesday, ruled out alliance with any political party in the next Lok Sabha elections saying his party would go solo irrespective of how much pressure is put on him.
Hinting at contesting from nearly a dozen and a half constituencies, Paswan, however, was quick to qualify his earlier statement by adding he would not make a deal with either the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), or Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) while leaving out other parties like the Congress and Samajwadi Party (SP).
The LJP leader who has repeatedly talked about shunning caste, class, and religious limitations in the Indian political spectrum but has frequently failed to back his words with matching actions, once again lashed out at other leaders for putting too much emphasis on one's caste and class and ignoring their track records.
"People of Bihar have seen the RJD rule; now they are enduring the NDA government and both times they have been disappointed by their performances. Now the time has come for the LJP and we are quite confident about our victories in the next Parliamentary elections," Paswan said.
